Rome - The Eternal City

A brief account of my first visit to Rome

Rome - The Eternal City

I have travelled quite a bit but it took almost 40 years for me to get to Rome. But all roads lead to Rome they say so in the end I got to see La Città Eterna - the eternal city.

We had rented an apartment with AirBnB that was just small walk from Forum Romanum. Somehow we ended up having this amazing roof terrass all to ourselves.

We arrived late at night and enjoyed the view of Rome and headed out into the streets early in the morning after.

To our surprise the cobblestone streets around Colleseum and Forum Romanum was closed off for traffic, making walking around taking in this amazing part of Rome truly a pleasant experience.

Forum Romanum

This archelogical area with buildings and structures several thousand years old, mixing with more recent ones (only a few hundred years old), was definitely the highlight of my stay in Rome.

That the area is completely open to walk around in, without lines and massive crowds of people, meant that we kept coming back here many times over our four-day stay.

The only problem, at least during our stay, is the lack of shade. With temperatures reaching above 40 degrees Celcius it was a bit hot during the day.

The Pantheon

Surprisingly the inside of Pantheon wasn't too crowded, even though it was nice and cool here.
